Sessions
Week 1 – Introduction
Thursday, February 19, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Facilitated by the Los Angeles Retreat Center Community (LARCC)
Hosted by all members of the Los Angeles Retreat Center Community, we will set the Lenten stage with those unavoidable conditions and feelings faced by Jesus and his disciples at that time. Each member center will briefly introduce techniques that were needed then and that we need now to help us navigate such loss and change to emerge with hope. The evening will include prayer reflection and opportunity for large-group sharing.
Hosted by LARCC
Week 3 – Dialogue & Respect
Thursday, March 5, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Facilitated by Sr. Chris Machado & Sr. Marie Lindemann
In a world where polarization is rampant and diversity sparks fear and even hatred, the ability to dialogue with others and see diversity as a benefit and blessing is needed more than ever. This evening will take a look at some tools for dialogue through the lens of the Woman at the Well from the Gospel of John.
Hosted by Holy Spirit Retreat Center
Week 5 – Faith
Thursday, March 19, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Facilitated by Fr. Febin Barose, CP
Faith, for us, is not simply a set of ideas we agree with. It is a living relationship of trust: an openness to the heart of God who waits for us with patient, faithful love. God rarely shouts; God meets us in quiet, grace-filled moments that we often recognize only in hindsight. And as Passionists, we learn faith at the foot of the Cross where Jesus entrusts Himself to the Father even in suffering, showing us that true faith endures, and leads us through darkness into new life.
Hosted by Mater Dolorosa Passionist Retreat Center
Week 2 – Mercy & Forgiveness
Thursday, February 26, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Facilitated by Sr. Bernie Inocencio, CSJ
Jesus challenged his disciples to go beyond what was written in the Law and to forgive the enemy – and yet in our world today, we find it so challenging to forgive even people whose opinions differ from our own. We experience God’s mercy and forgiveness ourselves; how can we extend that forgiveness and mercy to our sisters and brothers? Join us to reflect on what it means to live from a heart of forgiveness.
Hosted by Center for Spiritual Development
Week 4 – Courage
Thursday, March 12, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Facilitated by Fr. Larry Gosselin, OFM
Lent offers us the challenge of Christ, walking in His prophetic footsteps as witnesses announcing the proclamation of justice and peace. Along with faith and hope, this involves great courage to proclaim in love a Kingdom that is not yet here, but one that is envisioned for all people through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
Hosted by Serra Retreat Center
Week 6 – Gratitude
Thursday, March 26, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Facilitated by Sue Ballotti & Valeria Chow
Bringing gratitude to the season of Lent challenges us in uncertain times. This final session looks at gratitude in a practical way, with video, poetry, prayer, and questions for reflection and discussion. Poet Maya Angelou wrote: “Let gratitude be the pillow upon which you kneel to say your nightly prayer. And let faith be the bridge you build to overcome evil and welcome good.”
Hosted by Mary & Joseph Retreat Center
